The Contessa 26 is a 7.77 meter fiberglass monohull sailboat, designed by Jeremy Rogers and David Sadler. Rigged as a masthead sloop, with a deep keel and a hull-mounted rudder, the first Contessa 26 was launched in 1966. The Contessa 26 has proven to be proved to be a very successful racer and ocean voyager. The boats small size and easy to handle rig make her a popular choice for single handers. Tania Aebi and Brian Caldwell, both Americans, have sailed the Contessa 26 around the world alone. They both used the Canadian version of the boat. The yacht was originally constructed in the UK and later in Canada. About 800 of the boats were built. There are normally several Contessas available at any given time. Because about half were built in England and half in Canada they are available pretty much around the globe.
