Falmouth Cutter 22 Sailboat Designed by Lyle Hess – Used Boats For Sale

There are very few boats like the Falmouth Cutter 22 Sailboat.  This is a very capable Bluewater Cruiser and a very unique sailboat. You may recognize it as the little sister to the Bristol Cutter 28.  The Falmouth 22 is often used as a live aboard boat because of its spacious accomodations and standing headroom.  This also makes it a great world cruiser for either a singlehander or a couple.  It is capable of crossing any ocean and would handle a circumnavigation.  Like the Pacific Seacraft Flicka the Falmouth 22 is small but capable.  This is perhaps the boats most endearing quality.

Lyle Hess designed the Falmouth Cutter 22 as a pocket cruiser that could carry one or two persons across any ocean safely. The little yacht is designed just like the Bristol Channel Cutter but with minor changes to suit her size requirement. Like the Flicka 20, the Falmouth 22 can actually be trailered. This is a definate advantage for those who wish to relocate the boat to different bodies of water via interstates instead of oceans.

Catalina 22 Sailboat – Used Boats For Sale

The Catalina 22 Sailboat one of the more popular trailer capable small cruisers ever built. It is by no means a blue water cruiser but its price, features and trailerability make it a very popular choice for small sailboat enthusiasts.  I would classify it as a trailerable inland waterway cruiser.

Frank Butler, who was formerly with Columbia Yachts, built Catalina’s first model, the Catalina 22, in North Hollywood, CA.  The plan was to build 100 boats if all went well.  All did go well and to date, more than 10,000 boats been built making the Catalina 22 one of the most popular small cruising sailboats in the world.

We have additional specifications for the Catalina 22 such as LOA, Beam, Displacement, Headroom, Draft, Sail Area, etc.. in our specifications article to the right.

Cal 20 by Jensen Marine – Used Sailboat For Sale

The Cal 20 also known as the California 20 was built between 1961 and 1975 by Jensen Marine. The Cal 20 was designed by Bill Lapworth in 1960 and went into production in 1961. The little boat quickly became popular due to it’s low price tag of $3200. This low priced sailboat soon became the #1 seller for Jensen Marine and they would soon be building a 20 footer each day !  The boat is small and accommodations are limited, however, thanks to its heavy keel, it is a very seaworthy boat.  This is really the only reason it is classified as a small bluewater cruiser.

These quick little sailboats have four bunks, an eight foot cockpit, plenty of storage and a little marine head that comes in handy on longer cruises. Over 2400 Cal 20’s were manufactured. They remain a popular and sought after cruiser because of their speed, affordable price and cruising ability.  Because the Cal 20’s keel is cast iron, you need to check it carefully when purchasing.  Make sure it has been properly cared for.
